Junior Cycle

At the Midwest School for the Deaf there are a number of programmes available at Junior Cycle. The New Junior Cycle Program at level 2 is used in conjunction with Junior Certificate Schools Programme. Alternatively, QQI at Level 3 can be taken. It is also possible to follow a combination of both options.

Senior Cycle

QQI Level 4

This is the route most commonly followed by our students. Achievement at this level allows the student to progress to FETAC Level 5 courses with a provider such as Limerick College of Further Education and upon completion of a Level 5 course students can then apply to third level institutions.

QQI Modules are mainly assignment based rather than exam oriented. Students currently choose modules from the following list:
• Information Technology
• Mathematics
• Communications
• Personal effectiveness
• Drawing
• Textiles
• Painting
• Woodcraft
• Caring for Children
• Work Experience
• Irish Sign Language
Again this is subject to change dependant on the skill set of current teachers and funding for part time teachers.
If a full certificate is too challenging for some students they may achieve awards for individual subjects
